"Final Desination" Scares Up Top Spot at the Box-Office

In a busy weekend at the box-office, “The Final Destination” took the top spot in ticket sales this weekend with $28.3 million, according to studio estimates from box office trackers Nielsen EDI.

The movie is the fourth installment in the series and was shown in digital 3-D in a number of theaters across the nation.

Meanwhile, last week’s number one movie dropped to number two.  “Inglorious Basterds” dropped 47% from its debut to do $20 million in box-office business.

In third was another horror franchise opening, the new Rob Zombie “Halloween II.”  The latest Mike Myers saga took in $17.4 million.

“District 9″ continued to perform well, taking in just over $10 million for fourth place.  The final film in the top five was “G.I. Joe” with $8 million.
