During the recent Television Critics Association press tour, NBC acknowledged that its upcoming series, “Day One” could be a limited run series.
We’ve always looked at Day One as a big event for us and not necessarily a show that would be an ongoing, returning show for a second season,” NBC president of prime time entertainment Angela Bromstad said. “It would depend on its success. Just by nature of the genre, they always then get a little narrow, and whether or not we can sustain it on the air …”
“Day One” begins on the first day after a disaster, when a Los Angeles community sets out to rebuild. The series was created by former “Heroes” writer Jesse Alexander and many fans and critics have noted it sounds a bit like CBS’s “Jericho.”
However, no matter how long “Day One” runs, NBC says that the network is committed to bring quality genre programming to viewers.
“‘Heroes’ was really so successful for us, and it’s a genre we cannot ignore,” Bromstad said. “It does tend to be a little more of a narrow genre.”
“Day One” debuts in 2010.

I like that it has an alien invasion plot, but I’m not too wild about the whole limited series idea. Although, it works for shows like “24” (that each season has it’s own closed story, I mean).
