UK “Torchwood” Ratings Remain Strong
The third series of “Torchwood” was a hit in the UK, at least when it comes to the ratings.
The series, which was presented as a mini-series event over five nights drew larger audiences each evening until Thursday last week. The final night was down a bit, but the overnight ratings haven’t yet factored in DVR and time-shifting numbers.
Here are the numbers from preliminary figures.
Day One - 5.9 million viewers
Day Two - 5.6 million viewers
Day Three - 5.9 million viewers
Day Four - 6.2 million viewers
Day Five - 5.8 million viewers
The series dominated its time slot and won it each evening it air. As reported earlier, a fourth season of “Torchwood” appears likely given the series strong showing. No word yet on how many episodes could be commissioned.
“Torchwood: Children of Earth” will debut in the United States next week on BBC America. And we’ll have some special coverage from the our fellow Farpoint Media podcasters at “Tuning in to Sci-Fi TV” each night of “Torchwood” week.
Without giving away spoilers I need to warn people that parts of Children of Earth can be difficult to watch. It can put you through the emotional wringer. It’s still very good though, imo.

I agree with Tammy. But it was absolutely brilliant. I found that I could not stop watching it.

Seems to be rather polarizing amongst fans and casual viewers alike. Have heard many positive and negative reviews. It will be interesting to see how this level of “Dark Drama” goes down Stateside.
What I am wondering about, is how the BBC will be able to make a fourth season. Assuming it is a continuation of this season. And considering the ending of this season. . .
Still, I have to agree. It was a strong storyline.
“Torchwood: Children of Earth” takes the characters to places darker than any US TV show would dare.
The British have mastered the art of presenting the darker side of human nature without losing our sympathy for the characters.
This miniseries is tense, action packed, emotional, horrifying and engrossing. It’s a true credit to both the writers and actors. I’m not easily pleased, but this has been probably the most extraordinary British television event since “Threads” in the 80s.
Don’t miss it.
Rod, it’s funny that you should mention Threads, because I was thinking after watching CoE that I hadn’t been so disturbed by anything since Threads. Threads was brutal to watch. I was haunted by it for days afterwards.
I am from the US, and I am quite enjoying Children of the Earth, and so it the rest of my family. I am glad to see that the ratings where good in England, so that we might have more. Dr. Who and Torchwood are my two favorite programs.
I just saw the last episode of “Children of Earth” in the USA. I loved it. You Brits can be really dark, eh?
I hope it keeps on going. That has to have to be one of the best sci fi shows ever.
