Audiences appear to be more interested in seeing actual fireworks than fireworks on the big-screen this weekend according to box-office results.

After assaulting the box-office for more than $100 million last weekend, “Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen” dropped into a first-place tie for the box-office crown this weekend with the family friendly “Ice Age: Dawn of Dinosaurs.”  Both films took in $42.5 million in ticket sales according to intial reports.

“Transformers” has now become the top grossing film of the year in just over two weeks.   The film has now made $293.5 million in domestic receipts.

Johnny Depp’s John Dillinger “Public Enemies” also managed respectable holiday business, taking third place with $26.1 million.

Sandra Bullock’s comedy “The Proposal” was fourth with $12.8 million, followed by “The Hangover”’s $10.4 million.
