Dimension Pictures has acquired the rights to remake John Landis’ cult classic, “An American Werewolf in London” according to the Hollywood Reporter. The studio won the rights in a bidding war among several major studios the trade paper reports.
Landis wrote and directed the comedy-horror film, which starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two American backpackers hiking in the Yorkshire moors attacked by a mysterious animal who turns out to be a werewolf. Naughton ends up terrorizing London while Dunne is a reanimated corpse suggesting ways for Naughton to kill himself and stop the curse.
Sean and Bryan Furst will produce the new version.
No writer or director is on board but Dimension and the producers hope to make an elevated genre picture that will keep the fun comedy elements of the original as it seeks to be relevant to contemporary audiences.
Landis could serve as a consultant or producer on the remake.

Leave American Werewolf Aloooooooone!
Seriously, leave it alone. But Hollywood, I offer this suggestion: Remake the “sequel”, American Werewolf in Paris, since it was not as much fun, nor as good as the first one.
Maybe that’s how we can get Hollywood back on track… push them to remake the dogs instead of abusing the good ones with remakes.
Might I suggest a remake of Event Horizon with an ending that doesn’t suck? I’m sure I could come up with a list of movies to remake in exchange for a list of movies to leave alone!

For cryin’ out loud!
This is getting pathetic.
PTB, here’s a suggestion:
READ A MOTHERFRACKIN’ BOOK, why dontcha?!!!
STOP remakin’ stuff from your childhood (which is lookin’ more and more like, oh, the last 10-20 years).
Damn! Why doesn’t someone do a movie of Octavia Butler’s KINDRED, for example. (No… NOT with Will Smith, OK?)

I think you’re confused Tim.
AGAIN. 🙂
Teen Wolf is NOT American Werewolf in London.

@Summer, I watched Event Horizon when I was eleven or twelve, couldn’t sleep for a week. Though the dream ending was annoying.

About time, we were overdue for a Reboot announcement.
They could at least change the city…
How about:
An American Werewolf in Kandahar
An American Werewolf in Pyongyang
An American Werewolf in Khartoum
Joseph J. Lucas, III says
I want someone else to play both actors in the remake.
