With only one other film opening this weekend, it wasn’t a matter of if “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” would hold the top spot–it was a question of how much would it take at that top spot.
So far, it appears the movie could be on target to do “Dark Knight” like numbers according to the Hollywood Reporter.
After midnight screenings took in over $16 million late Tuesday/early Wednesday morning, the movie roared to the largest Wednesday box-office opening in history with $60.6 million, according to preliminary numbers. That’s only slightly off the debut of “Dark Knight” last year that took in just over $67 million.
It easily shattered the record for a Wednesday debut, set by the last “Harry Potter” movie.
And according to tracking reports, the robot on robot action shows no signs of stopping. Even scathign reviews by critics and allegations of racism within the film don’t seem to be stopping audiences from heading to theaters for the movie.
