June 24, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV News

SPOILER WARNING: This report will contain SPOILERS for the upcoming ninth season of “Smallville.”  If you don’t want to know more, please don’t read more…

After years of antagonizing Clark Kent as a ghost-like creature that can inhabit other bodies, the infamous General Zod will finally get his own body next year on “Smallville.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, actor Callum Blue has signed on to play Zod for the upcoming ninth season of the CW drama.

Zod was originally brought to life on screen by actor Terrance Stamp in “Superman II.”  One wonders if Blue will be able to say the line, “Kneel before Zod” to the young Clark Kent at some point during the ninth seasono.

Blue is a British actor who has been seen on features such as “Dead Like Me,” “The Tudors” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.”

“Smallville” returns in September on the CW.

Oh, and by-the-by, Zod already made an appearance in the show. He was just in the body of Lex Luthor. Not sure I’m too crazy about the recycled badguy…

So, instead of “Kneel before Zod,” he’s gonna say “That f*****’ hurt!”

I really like this actor, so him as Zod + BAG as Metallo should prove interesting… through to paraphrase a previous post, Doomsday should’ve proved interesting too.

    “Doomsday should’ve proved interesting too.”

    He did, until the finale.

“Oh, and by-the-by, Zod already made an appearance in the show. He was just in the body of Lex Luthor.”

This time it’ll be for real.

Huh. Interesting choice. I like Blue as an actor, and I think this is the first time Smallville has used “British = evil” for a major arc villain. (I choose to believe that Jor-El was merely misguided in his underestimation of us Earthlings, not actually evil. Probably because I first encountered Stamp in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. He’ll always be Bernadette to me.)
