Fuller Exits “Heroes”
Well, that didn’t last long.
Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reports that Bryan Fuller has left the production staff of “Heroes.” For those keeping track at home, this is the second time Fuller has left the production team. The first time, he created and produced ABC’s “Pushing Daisies.” After the series was canceled, Fuller came back to “Heroes” for the final episodes of season three and was reported to be working on the upcoming fourth season.
Fuller has left “Heroes” now to work on developing several other projects as part of a new deal with NBC.
“I’m crafting two pilots right now and it’s a lot of work,” Fuller told EW. “It was just too hard to [juggle] Heroes and my development; something had to give.”
Fuller is credited with the uptick in quality of the final few episodes of season three for the once hit show for NBC. (You still can’t convince me the season finale wasn’t a huge disappointment). And many fans were hopeful that a Fuller-supervised season four would help the show get back to what made it great during its fourth season.
No word yet on how much, if any, influence Fuller had in shaping or guiding season four.
And somehow, my hopes for “Heroes” and its fourth season just took a huge nosedive…
I thought the whole reason the series was renewed for another season was BECAUSE Bryan Fuller came back. I have a feeling that Season 4 will be the last season for “Heroes”, even if by some miracle it turns out to be the best. If Fuller leaves, I believe most of his fans will leave with him.
Last season or not, it’s going to go on without me. I have no interest anymore in seeing whatever schlock they throw together.
Same here… the story-telling left me a little chilly. Not even his previous return brought me back.
At least this time, they have a chance to try to go out on top… I hope for all our sakes they grab for that brass ring.
This is certainly a check in the “negative” column. However, the fact that they got Robert Knepper on to play a villain in Volume 5 is still a pretty big plus so I’ll stick around at least to see that (for reference, Knepper’s previous character was up there with S1 Sylar as one of the best villains on TV).
To be honest the story has got so messed up I think it was beyond repair even if Fuller was on it. I wish they could go back in time to just before they wrote the S1 finale and just take 5 mins a think about it.
I tried to like this season but the messed up time travel with no explanation of how it works has just killed it for me. I’ll still watch as most of the rest is total tosh, but won’t be particularly excited.
It’s really sad. Part of me still has hope that it’ll reclaim the awesome that was Season One.
But the realistic part of me wins out every time.
Bring back the 4400 with heroes` budget!! Now that would be awesom!!
According to Greg Grunnberg (via Twitter), they’ve already got a bunch of season four scripts in the bag and filming either starts soon or just started (they might still be in prep mode), so I’m hoping that at least the beginning of the next run will be okay.
