Looks like the proposed “Buffy” reboot will happen without Joss Whedon.
Whedon told Entertainment Weekly that when the news broke about a reboot to the 1992 feature film that producers reached out to him.
” I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck,” Whedon responded.
So it looks like we’ll get new “Buffy” with no Whedon.
And they’ve officially lost my interest…..

Good for Joss!

I am done with this one as well. Joss was the one that turned a lame movie into a watchable and engaging series and, with Serenity, created a film that was the equal of the series from which it came. I have no reason now to see this film (except on cable when it comes out to laugh at it).

I’m late to the Buffy/Angel thing. My first Whedon show as Firefly.
I’ve watched through Season 5 of Buffy and Season 2 of Angel and I am starting to lose some interest in Buffy at this point.
I think its a good decision to not do the Buffy Reboot. You can’t capture lightning in a bottle twice. Move onto something else, like a second Firefly sequel/prequel before Wash dies! Maybe show us the Battle of Serenity Valley.

When you reach the end of season 5 of Buffy, STOP!!!! Do NOT go on to Seasons 6 & 7, despite the temptation of more and better Spike and a Musical to boot!
SPOILER ALERT!!! Move on to other comments if you havent seen Dr. Horrible or All of Buffy.
You were warned.
***Spoiler start***
The final ep of Buffy S5 has the same heart crushing mind numbing, OMG that was AMAZING! effect as the final ep of Dr. Horrible, and for much the same reasons. It should have been left to die a ‘Horrible’ death.
***Spoiler death***

The problem with BTVS is that started to take itself too seriously in the 5th season and got steadily more “serious” in seasons 6 and 7. It stopped being fun and started to be a bunch of angsty crap that is better left to dreck like Twilight. Season 7 was almost entirely unwatchable with Buffy becoming increasingly full of herself, shitty to Giles, and basically acting more and more like a queen bee in hive full of wannabe slayers.
Michael Hickerson says
I disagree with you guys on Buffy’s sixth and seventh season. Season six was about growing up and I liked the theme for the season. Season seven wasn’t great but it had some good episodes..and if you’re going to watch, you might as well watch it all.

This is why I give the man high props and wish we would see more people in hollywood like Joss, He said all he wanted to in the shows, ties up lose ends and gave us a good ending. No reason for him to go back and retell it all over again. Kudos to the man,
Tim

Are they going to keep in mind that Joss has been writing comic books continuing the story?
Umm… wow stupid much people. Good job Joss, smart man to walk away from this mess.

At the risk of being called pedantic (which, to be fair, I can be), Whedon himself wasn’t approached about the movie. The producers of the would-be “reboot” only contacted his agents after the news broke and all of Whedon-dom went into meltdown. Personally, I’m with Joss on this — no interest in the project.

I would agree with Mr. HIckerson. Buffy’s story is about a journey from high school to adulthood and all that entails.
I think if you stop and just leave it unfinished you are not really following the story to the end. Yeah it might not have been the strong, snark filled bits that were in the earlier season but the characters were growing up and out..
