If you’re head is still reeling from last week’s season finale of “Fringe,” join the club.
However, executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are saying that while the season finale may have been a mind-blowing one for fans, there are still some twists, turns and surprises waiting for fans in season two.
What the two hint at does give away some SPOILERs for the entire first season of the show and the season finale, so if you’re time-shifting the episode, you may want to save the rest of this article for later.
“Before setting things up, we wanted to give some answers,” Orci told SciFi Wire. “If you look at the Internet, you’d see various levels of awareness of what’s going on and with what we were thinking. You saw Walter [John Noble] find the grave of his son, Peter [Joshua Jackson]. You saw Olivia [Anna Torv] essentially step into another world and meet William Bell [Leonard Nimoy].”
“You have a gigantic clue to what has been a potential organizing principle or source of the Pattern and what these weird events are,” he added. “In some way, two worlds are colliding, so that sets up the potential for a wonderful exploration of how these things interact, who William Bell is, is he good or bad, and is Nina [Blair Brown] friend or foe? You are going to see the Fringe division come under more intense scrutiny and therefore have to operate more clandestinely. You are going to see Peter become more engaged as he discovers some of the things the audience has found out.”
Fans may be curious to know when some things will happen. Kurtzman said that we will eventually find out what Walter did to Olivia when she was a child subject of one of his experiments. We’ll also see Walter take two steps forward, one step back in recovering his memory.
“You always try to imagine the lifespan of the show, and as that becomes clearer, we will decide how far he will get in his quest to remember exactly what he is responsible for or who he is,” Kurtzman said.
As for the mysterious Observer, Kurtzman and Orci said the character is one of their favorites and one that look forwar to exploring more as the show continues. The writers said the Observer is the thread that ties the entire story together into the larger storyline unfolding and they “are exploring ways to reveal his role without giving it away completely.”
“Fringe” returns this fall to Thursday nights on Fox.
