“Reaper” May Not Be Dead

May 14, 2009 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: TV News

The reports of “Reaper”’s demise may have been overly exaggerated.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, ABC Studios, who produces the series, is talking to CW affiliates about syndicating the series. ABC Studios is pitching the series as a programming option because the CW has decided not to continue offering programming on Sunday evenings.

While the series has drawn low ratings this year due to a highly competitive timeslot on Tuesday evenings, it has still pulled in solid numbers demographically. That and a loyal and vocal fanbase are two factors motivating ABC Family to pursue keeping the series around for another year.

ABC Family is also said to be exploring the possibility of the series being shown on cable.

However, the Hollywood Reporter does say that both possibilities are long-shots for the show. One factor working against the show is the creators, Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to develop new series and are said to have moved on. Another is the high price tag associate with the show that may work against it going into syndication. Finally, actor Tyler Labine has signed on to a new series on Fox for next fall.
