Fox, the network infamous for giving shows a very short leash when it comes to cancellation, has given the upcoming “Family Guy” spin-off a renewal notice. And the first episode of the show hasn’t even aired.
The new spin-off, “Cleveland” focuses on Peter Griffin’s neighbor and friend, Cleveland. The series was originally set to debut this spring but Fox pushed it to the fall to allow the creative team more time to hone the scripts and work on the animation for the show. The show was initially given a 13-episode order which then increased to a full 22-episode order when the show was pushed back to the fall.
Now, the show has been given a green light for a 13-episode second season. Again, that’s before the show even sees the light of day on Fox. Part of this decision may be the long lead time needed to produce new episodes of an animated series.
“Cleveland” hails from co-creators/exec producers by Seth MacFarlane, Rich Appel and Mike Henry, who voices the title character.
The show’s voice cast also includes MacFarlane, Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long, as well as Arianna Huffington in a recurring role.
