Could Agent Scully find the truth is out there–in the TARDIS?
According to Den of Geek, actress Gillian Anderson is in discussions with the “Doctor Who” production team for a guest-starring role in the upcoming fifth series. The web site cites the Daily Mirror as the source for the rumor, though nothing has yet been confirmed by the BBC.
As for who Anderson would play, that is potential SPOILER material, so if you don’t want to know, stop reading now….
According to reports, Anderson is discussing reprising the role of the Doctor’s nemesis, the Rani. The Rani is a female Time Lord who appeared twice during the classic run of the series–once in the Colin Baker era and once during Sylvester McCoy’s first story. Orginally played by actress Kate O’Mara, the Rani is a Time Lord along the lines of the Master.
As we stated before, nothing has been confirmed about this casting news. Fans who’d like to find out more about the Rani can catch her first story, “The Mark of the Rani” on DVD. Her second appearance, “Time and the Rani” is not yet on DVD (which some may consider a blessing if you’ve seen the story).

Yeah, heard this one last Thursday. Well as with all things of this nature, I won’t believe it till the BBC offically denies it 😉 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/doctor-who/5204395/Gillian-Anderson-being-lined-up-for-Doctor-Who-appearance.html

I JUST heard about it (as I am in the States) and if this is true, Gillian would make an unbelievable Rani! Would LOVE to see that.

She has been living over there for sometime now. So would make a lot of sense. She is a great actress when given something to work with.

Considering that half the women cast on Doctor Who over the past four years have been rumored to be the Rani, I’ll believe it when I see an official BBC announcement. I’m sure Gillian would do a great job with the role, though.

Actually, I think Claudia Black would make a better Rani, or perhaps Romana III ?

Well since you liked that one… Again from the “Take it with a grain of Dubai sand” files. If true then I believe that RTD can be certified insane at this point. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/doctor-who/5240633/Claire-Bloom-to-star-as-mother-of-Doctor-Who.html
