The two-night return of the sci-fi comedy series, “Red Dwarf” proved to be a ratings hit last weekend in the United Kingdom.
More than two million viewers tuned in for Friday’s night’s installment of “Red Dwarf: Return to Earth” on the BBC digital channel Dave according to reports. The ratings were well beyond those of any other show in the same time frame for the digital channel. The channel usually averages 226,000 viewers in the time slot.
The show was watched by 10% of the entire digital audience and beat BBC Two, which broadcast live golf, and Five, which broadcast US drama “NCIS”, in the same time slot.
Later figures revealed a further 342,000 watched the first Red Dwarf instalment on the timeshift channel Dave ja vu an hour later.
The special was a reunion of all the original cast members of “Red Dwarf.”

And to think… 2 million viewers here in the states would be a ratings bomb… What’s wrong with this picture?
Ashley Martin says
It’s was 3 part show, fri, sat and sun.

What’s wrong with the picture? Out of focus, perhaps. What’s the pop. of the UK? What’s the pop. of the US? Those are hints.

I was massively disappointed. It just didn’t have the same “dwarfness” that I remember.
Bad points:
Craig Charles (as himself) is just ANNOYING!
The cat had absolutely NOTHING to do!
Chris Barrie was probably the best thing about it. At least he had a COUPLE of funny lines.
Robert Llewlyn, who I normally love, I found to be rather dull.
The biggest travesty of all?? NO HOLLY!!? WTF?
The whole “characters discover they are in a tv show/movie” schtick has been done to death.
The stupid Blade Runner “bit”.
Good points:
It was relatively short.
The chick who played the Russian Hologram was reasonably hot.
Time to pack up the bazookoids and smeg off, guys!

anyone who doesnt like the new red dwarf can just smeg off ive been waiting ten years for this and the other two “specials” due later on this year and i loved it!

I “caught a flight to the UK”, and I don’t know about anyone else, but I liked it. When something very very silly makes me laugh in spite of myself, it works.
And the Blade Runner stuff? Are you kidding me? That was some funny, silly fun!
I was looking for Red Dwarf, and that’s exactly what I got.
It was good to see the crew again.

Most of it was ok. Wasn’t great, but then I’m not sure the latter series were quite as good as the initial ones! Series 3 was the best (IMO). Did like the shameless plugging of the product. Best bit for me (and I’ll try to do this without spoiling) was the discussion and result about the ‘murder’ of holograms!
Think it is time to call it a day now though!

Overall, I found it entertaining. There were some weaker bits, sure, but there were also some fantastic ones. The Blade Runner sequence, for instance, and the discussion of hologram murder. And the kids on the bus were absolutely adorable. I’m looking forward to seeing if they can fully recapture the old Red Dwarf spark in the next one.

I liked it. It may not have be the best they have every done; but give them a break. It has been over ten years since they played the characters. I am very happy to see them back, and will be hoping that even more will come. However, I do hope to see Holly again. So in closing it’s good to have them back, and if you didn’t like it then your a smeg head.
