Those of you dreading “Spider-Man 4” after the mess that was “Spider-Man 3” can take solace in the fact that director Sam Raimi has apparently learned his lesson.
After having a great deal of creative control over the first two installments, Raimi was forced to contractually forced to make concessions and additions to the third installment. Most notably–the addition of the Venom storyline that was forced on the production late in the game by the studio and Marvel producer Avi Arad.
Now with “Spidey 4” ramping up production, Raimi says he wants to take the reigns back.
“The best way for me to move forward on films, I realize… and this was a lesson I had to learn for myself… is that I’ve gotta be the singular voice that makes the creative choices on the film,” Raimi said. “I love Spider-Man so much that I’d like to continue telling Spider-Man stories but only under those circumstances where I think I can honor him. I don’t think I can honor him any other way.”
Of course, this doesn’t explain who though the Peter Parker Emo walk from the third movie was a good idea, but it does give us hope for “Spidey 4.”
