Before You Buy Or Rent "Let the Right One In" Read This

If you’ve been waiting to see the highly acclaimed Swedish vampire movie, “Let the Right One” in on DVD, you may be in a for a bit of a disappointment.
According to Icons of Fright News, the subtitles for the recently released American DVD of the film contains subtitles have been drastically changed and while they may translate the dialogue being said “Just about the intent of every single line of dialogue was completely off and ruined the movie.”
Icon of Fright’s article compared the subtitles from an original screener of the film to the new version.  The new version seems to take away some of the subtetly of the dialogue from the scenes and in others, the dialgoue ceases to make sense.  If you want to see how this happened, surf over to the Icons of Fright article and look at the screen captures with the subtitles from both the screener and the U.S. official release.
The article goes on to say, “I hate to say this because I’ve been a huge advocate of this movie from the get-go, but because of my love of this movie, I have to strongly advise against buying the Magnolia/Magnet US DVD or Blu-Ray version of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, because it is NOT the version of the movie the director would’ve wanted you to experience. Perhaps there’s a good import DVD version of it out there somewhere? Or maybe Magnolia can rectify this disasterous mistake and re-issue the DVD again in a year or so.”
However, it appears that the studio has heard the complaints of fans and will release the original subtitled version on DVD.   The Digital Bits did some digging and contacted the studio.  The studio said the release is being corrected but that fans will have to be careful to make sure they get the correct version.
“There are no exchanges. We are going to make an alternate version available however. For those that wish to purchase a version with the theatrical subtitles, it will be called out in the tech specs box at the back/bottom of the package where it will list SUBTITLES: ENGLISH (Theatrical), SPANH.”
The discs aren’t currently available in stores.

Rip it from your DVD, the download proper srt files and watch on your computer.

    Or something.

    This is pretty lame.

Rented from Netflix and watched last night. While the subtitles are wonked as described above, the English dubbing has the correct script. So if you don't mind the slightly strange cadence and accents, the story holds up well. Btw-one of the best movies I've seen in a while...

I had pre-ordered the dvd two months out after watching the movie. All I can really add is watch the English dubb first before hear the actual actors' voices. I had a hard time getting past that.
