Daddario Cast in “Lightning Thief”
On a recent episode of Slice of SciFi, we told you about the upcoming big-screen adaptation of “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.” The movie will be directed by Christopher Columbus for Fox 2000 and is hoped to be a start of a new fantasy franchise.
Now wee can tell you that actress Alexandra Daddario has nabbed the lead female role according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The actress joins Logan Lerman and Brandon T. Jackson in the fantasy-adventure movie being directed by Chris Columbus. Columbus and Craig Titley have adapted the screenplay from Rick Riordan’s best-selling children’s novel.
The Greek mythology-inflected book involves Poseidon’s half-human son, Percy, who’s on a quest across modern America to prevent a war among the gods. Daddario will play Athena’s 18-year-old daughter, Annabeth, a warrior at Camp Half-Blood with Percy and potential romantic foil.
“Lightning Thief” is the first of five novels about Percy Jackson and the Olympians; the fifth, “The Last Olympian”, is due in stores in May.
Annabeth isn’t 18, she’s 12! She also has blonde hair and grey eyes. I honestly don’t know how the make up artists are going to do it.
I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited that they are making a movie but they shouldn’t squeeze all the five books into one! And the characters are not that old!
this movie is going to suck. Annabeth is freking TWELVE! why would percy, an TWELVE year old, fall in love with an 18 year old?!?!?!?!?!? also, how are they going to fit all five into one when percy ages 4 years throughout them. this is going to ruin it.
I know how you guys feel, it is true that Annabeth is 12…Not 18! But remember its an “adaption”, so that means they’re changing the whole sequence of the story to meets its HOLLYWOOD influential status.

this movie is going to suck horribly. it is going to be freaking sad i can just tell. oh, and nice job casting, by the way(sarcasm) and annabeth is twelve, NOT 18, with BLONDE, CURLY HAIR and GREY EYES!!!!! Me and my frend are going to go to the movie just to laugh at it and point out various plotholes and innacuracies, because there will be hoardes of those.
HONESTLY! i mean, annabeth isn’t even 18 by the end of the book series! If you’re going to turn perfectly good books into hollywood SELLOUTS, you could at least stay true to the story! from what i can tell, this movie wil ruin the books for everyone who hasn’t read them yet.
I agree with all of you! i mean, if you want to make a lot of money than you need to keep people wanting more by making each book a seperate movie. if you squish it all together than you will get ppl confused and mad. Thenwhen it goes on dvd, no one will really want i! i’ll see the movie because of the books, nothing else.
I know this is an “adaption” but what fan is going to freakin’ wanna see this! It looks like crap so far! Annabeth is 12! I don’t care if it’s an adaption SHE’S TWELVE! Dear Moviemakers, (trying to stay calm) i just read the books and loved it. Why ruin a perfectly good book and make a movie that totally stinks? My sister and I were really looking forward to the movie. But now this! Why do movie makers make a movie based on some book and comepletely change it? You butcher it! And for your information Annabeth is not 18! She is 12 years old! do you hear that? 12!
Well, the movie will no doubt suck. It’s such a great series and there are so many events in each book that the movie won’t have time to cover them all so that’ll suck. I mean, each event has significance and if there are like 7 events in each book, there will be 35 events in the movie and we’ll be sitting there for like 5 freaking hours waiting for it to finish.
The movie has a lot of potential. They need to actually THINK about what they’re making. If you change the story too much, people won’t like it and won’t pay for it. They could do sooo much better.
And also, if all the characters are so freaking old, what are they suposed to do with the prophecy? That’s the whole point and if they’re already past that age, well, it’ll be bad.
So you movie makers, STOP AND THINK
Like all of the other comments, i agree. This movie will majorly suck if they push all the books into one movie. Also is percy going to age between scenes, because then the prophecy is ruined. I don’t understand why they just don’t do a series thing each year like harry potter.

Well……..this is a bit of a mess……I actually thought Percy Jackson will be simular to Harry Potter movie…starting from a young age…..and growing up through out the movies.

The Lightning thief is my ultime favorite series. I’ve introduced 6 different people to the books and of course, like me, are going to see the movie for the sake of the book. And other thousands are going to as well, so you can see where they make the money. But why mess up the caracters ages, looks and personalitys, shove 5 books into 1 movie and make it dumb? they would make more money with 5 movies rather than one.
Um, I’m reading the comments, and I have to point out I don’t really see anything specifically saying that they are cramming each book into one film, and it say film *franchise.* Which, unless I am mistaken, means several films.
But, I agree, WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE CASTING?! Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth? ARE YOU JOKING?! ANNABETH AS 18? And, I don’t know if anyone else read this, but I read recently that they’ve casted Persephone (who, I must point out, was NOT in the Lightning Thief!) and the article I read (not on this site) said that Persephone will have a flirtation (I repeat for emphasis, FLIRTATION) with Grover.

Okay I just read on a different site that the kid who plays Percy was born in 1992 which makes him 17 and he’s supposed to be 12 and fall in love with a 12 year old not a 18 year old and she’s (in my best smart-ass tone) is supposed to have blonde hair, gray eyes, and 12 YEARS OLD!!!! You known the directors can make more money if they make 5 movies, instead they want to fit all 5 books into one movie and the directors just want ruin the whole movie and why can’t Rick thell them to do it the way the book goes and if I don’t hear a change soon I will be really pissed off.

Um hello Annabeth is 12 not 18 and she has BLOND CURLY HAIR AND GREY EYES. NOT BROWN HAIR AND EYES. THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK IF YOU MAKE IT LIKE THIS. Also you need to start out where their young and show Percy and Annabeth’s complex relationship. they have a background for a reason hello. And it should show how young they are and how awesome it is that they can fight like that, and that their truly hero’s not kids about to go to college!!!!!!!

Gosh people. Okay, yes, the movie might suck: books made into movies (besides Harry Potter) normally do. But give it a chance. I did that with Twilight and came to find that I was absolutely disgusted about it later, but I’m happy to say that I gave it a chance and didn’t push it off before anything’s even set in stone. I think this girl could pass for a younger age. Makeup artists have done much more magical things then make an eighteen year old look twelve, like make a fifty year old look twenty. And yes, Annabeth’s eyes are grey and she has blonde hair, but use common sense. It’s as simple as contacts and dying the hair for that. Kristen Stuart for instance, has had black hair, blonde hair, brown hair, and who-knows-what-else. calm down. If you go around thinking it’s bad and miss it when it turns out to be the best movie in all of history or something, you’ll feel really stupid

this actor is 23 magicians cant make you look 10 years younger so make-up artists cant either. they can maybe make her look 15 which is practicly the end of the series…………..!!!!!!!!!
You have got a point but your going to see what i mean when the movie comes out….
I’m a fan of the books, and I have to say that I am completely fine with them aging the characters a bit. The action in the books is significantly more intense than in other movies geared at younger kids. I think the film will reach a larger audience with High School Age kids. I saw the teaser last night at HP and the kids playing Percy looks like he is about 13 or 14, which would make Annabeth 15 or 16, which is completely fine. The actress could easily pass for 15 or 16. It’s really not uncommon for an early 20’s actor to play a high school age kid. As for the prophecy in the book make it when he turns 18 instead of 16.

First of all, in the first book, Annabeth and percy are twelve. Second, ANnabeth is supposed to have CURLY BLOND hair, and last, Annabeth and Percy don’t even turn 18 in the last book. They’re supposed to be only sixteen. I wasnted to watch the movie really badly, but I don’t want to anymore. If they’re going to put all of the books into one movie, it’s going to suck. I’m not even that excited anymore.
