"Dollhouse" Airs Big Episode Opposite "Galactica" Finale

Since “Dollhouse” debuted last month, Eliza Dushku has been saying that the sixth episode of the series would be a “game changer” for the freshman show and one that really kicked the show’s mythology to a whole new level.

So guess when it airs?

If you guessed next Friday opposite the final episode of “Battlestar Galactica,” you’d be right.

According to the Chicago Tribune‘s Maureen Ryan, the episode is called “Man on the Street” and is written and directed by series-creator Joss Whedon. The episode will also feature Patton Oswalt in a guest-role.

There are more hints and details about what you can expect next week. But a lot of it is SPOILER filled. So please turn back now if you don’t want to know…

The episode will feature some big moments according to Ryan. Echo will meet FBI Agent Paul Ballard for the first time. And it was this episode that really hooked actor Tahmoh Penikett onto the show and made him want to be part of “Dollhouse.”

“As everyone knows, we had somewhat of a tumultuous start. There was a lot of speculation, a lot of bad press, and you inevitably get caught up in it a little bit,” Penikett said. “Once I read the fifth and sixth episodes, specifically ‘Man on the Street,’ I was like, ‘This is it. This is the show.’”

Ryan posts the full description for the episode as follows: “Echo becomes the perfect wife for a lonely internet mogul, and Sierra’s attacker is revealed. Meanwhile, Mellie’s life is in danger and Agent Ballard’s investigation takes a surprising turn when he comes face-to-face and goes fist-to-fist with Echo for the first very time.”

So now fans are stuck with a choice–two “must-see” episodes will air opposite each other next week. I bet this episode of “Dollhouse” could be one of the most watched on Hulu because we all know most sci-fi fans will be glued to the final hours of “Battlestar.”

  1. Comcast in Denver shows BSG twice -- once opposite Dollhouse and then a couple of hours later. So it's not a problem for us. I had assumed this was Sci Fi Channel's doing.

  2. David says:

Choice? You mean someone actually considers Dollhouse in the same league as BSG? Please... By now, Josh should be happy if people even bother to watch Dollhouse on Hulu. I suppose anything to keep what audience it still has even remotely interested. Then again maybe it is decent, I'd imagine that Fox would have killed the show if the best of Dollhouse was behind us already.

Not at all concerend, thanks to my dual tuner HD DVR. I am slightly ticked that my wife volunteered to help someone load a truck that evening, but everything will be waiting for me when I get home.

I plan on watching those two plus TSCC and Flashpoint.

  5. Aside from the mutiny episodes early in the return of BSG, that show has done nothing for me but disappoint. Honestly - what a mess. Watching Moore and crew try to knit the broken and abandoned plot lines from the last 3-4 years is physically painful.

As to which people will watch, with all the viewing options outside seeing it "live" when it airs, I suppose most people will watch both.

I wonder though if the suits in Hollyweird are actually able (or willing) to acknowledge the alternate methods people use to watch their shows (legal or not) and how that affects traditional ratings.

DVR for the win! We can have our (beef)cake and eat it, too.

  7. Um, yes, if you don't have some way to record this stuff, you're still living in '70s. Lucky for you that fashion resets.

  8. Kyle Nin says:

I usually watch "BSG" during its second airing anyway, since the first airing is on at the same time as "Numb3rs".

  9. Colin says:

I think 'Dollhouse' has been okay so far; I blame FOX, not Joss, for that. I'll catch BSG at the later showing anyway. So no worries.
