After months of rumors, the Hollywood Reporter confirms that actress Dakota Fanning will join the cast of “New Moon.”
“New Moon” is the sequel to last year’s “Twilight” and is based on the best-selling novel by Stephenie Meyer. Fanning has been the source of speculation with “New Moon” since January, but Summit Entertainment only confirmed the casting yesterday. While specifics of Fanning’s role have yet to be revealed, the consensous opinion is that Fanning will play Jane, sweet but sneaky vampire who features in a segment of the movie set to take place in Italy. Jane will share scenes with Edward, played by Rob Pattinson.
We won’t reveal more about her role as it may be considered SPOILER material for those who haven’t read the books.
Fans who have been to the movies recently may recognize the voice of Fanning from the new stop-motion animated “Coraline.” The young actress already has an impressive body of work, including recently starring in “The Secret Life of Bees.”
Filming for “New Moon” is set to begin soon and the film is set to debut in theaters later this year.
She'll be excellent in her role.

I agree with brittany. dakota is a good actress and all but i dont see her playing as jane. dakota seems to nice, i dont think she should play the role. there are other actresses that can do a lot better, plus shes to old for the part, someone a bit younger. but i guess we will she how she does.

She's a great actress, and one of my daughter's favorites. She was about the only good part in the recent movie push. Have yet to see her give a bad performance.

I agree with Aaliya. Well...not that you guys necessarily suck....but that Fanning will be perfect in this film. She is by far one of the finest young actresses in Hollywood history, rating right up there with the likes of Judy Garland, Shirley Temple, Drew Barrymore and the infamous Tatum O'Neil.

Dakota Fanning was not what i pictured playing Jane. there needs to be someone who is a little bit younger because it says Jane looks a little childish. And i would know because i have read Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn 3 times. Se wont necessarily ruin the movie its just she doesn't fit the role as Jane.

I think Dakota is a wonderful actress and i really look up to her, but i didnt see her as Jane when i read New Moon...however, Dakota is very talented, and i think she will pull off the part.

I agree that Dakota doesn't seem to fit the part of Jane....But....we have a lot of technologies that can help her fit the part perfect. Take lord of the rings for example. Elijah did not fit the roll for Frodo, but they shortened him and all . I think that the New Moon movie is going to be awesome! I'm totally excited and can't wait for it to come out! Only a couple more months! YAY! I think Dakota will do a excellent job....after all she is a great actress.

Hmm, either Dakota Fanning or Jodelle Ferland should play Jane Volturi. I can picture Jodelle exactly as Jane, she has that evil look and is age-appropriate. But some how Dakota can fit the role too, and her acting skills, in my opinion, is better than Jodelle's. Still, I'm happy that the battle was won between the two of them, and not by some other person. i just can't picture them as Jane. Never mind about me speaking crap, I think the producers should just stick with Dakota and go full-steam ahead, and if she's not suitable they can always switch to Jodelle.
