Release Date for "Dawn Treader" Set

After rescuing the Narnia franchise, 20th Century Fox is looking to the franchise to rescue its holiday box-office earnings.

The studio announced yesterday that the third installment in the Narnia franchise, “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” will hit theaters on December 10, 2010. The move puts the Narnia movies back to a holiday release, along the lines of the original film, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Last summer’s “Prince Caspian” opened during a competitive May and while it had a respectable run at the box-office, it didn’t deliver the numbers Disney was hoping for domestically. World-wide, it had solid numbers.

As it stands now, “Treader” is the only movie scheduled to open on December 10.

I've been wondering when this was going to come out. I'm looking forward to it. I know the two oldest children, Peter and Susan will not be returning to Narnia. Some people are going to wonder why. It was written that way in the books. It's also not only because they could not learn any more from that world, but it is also because both are growing up. Susan is starting to see boys in a different way (and that frightened her to start with). Meeting Prince Caspian, she's had to learn how to deal with those feelings and learn to accept that she is turning into a woman. Peter is growing into his manhood and being a man he will need to know the world beyond childhood. He must put away those "childish" things and grow. And both were begining to see Narnia more as a world that is just a dream and magic as something that only children believe in.

Many English Children grew up on CS Lewis, while many more did not. Those adults who came from the time when the books were first published, know the stories well. Did you know that CS Lewis was a contemporary of J.R.R. Tolkien? Children of today, don't read as much. They watch TV, chat on the internet, use their phones to text message, but picking up a book is only done when it's required for school, and even probably not even then. Reading is still the most basic thing we need to learn to do, and reading books can sweep us a way to far off lands that the internet doesn't give us in the way that a book requires us. Reading takes time and patience. You cannot rush through a book the way you can rush through web pages. So, take time to read, you might find the passtime a wonderful way to have a mini vacation without spending any money.

My suggestion to everyone, is before you go see Voyage of the Dawn Treader, get the book. You can find all of CS lewis' books in the Children's section of your bookstore or in the Library. You do know what a Library is, it's that big building with a lot of books you can borrow. All you need is a library card, and that's free.
