“Eastwick” Finds One of Its Witches

Actress Jaime Ray Newman has been offered one of the three lead roles in ABC’s pilot for “The Witches of Eastwick” according to Variety.   Newman  will play Kat, a good-natured nurse and a mom of five kids who discovers her new powers.

Newman has guest-starred on other genre series including “Supernatural,” “Heroes” and “Stargate: Atlantis.”  She had a recurring role on UPN/the CW’s “Veronica Mars.”

The new series is based on the 1987 movie of the same name.

In other casting news, one of the stars from the original film, Veronica Cartwright has been cast in a supporting role for the new version.

The pilot is set to begin production this spring and will be directed by  television veteran director David Nutter.

    My initial impression about this show is that it’s going to be Charmed sans the fun.

    Plus it’s being on ABC doesn’t bode well. Except for Scrubs which was moved to that network, I’ve not watched anything ABC has done since NYPD Blue went off the air.
