The ground-breaking and influential anime film “Akira” will makes its Blu-Ray debut next Tuesday.
The disc will be a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with a new 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer (1.85:1) and Japanese audio in a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround (192khz/24-bit), PCM 2.0 Stereo, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. An English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround dub is also provided.
The new release of the film will look and sound better than it ever has, thanks to the meticulous care and preparation that went in to restoring the 1988 Japanese animated feature for the Blu-ray release, according to BluRay.com. Though the film was remastered in 2001 for a DVD release, advancements in the technology meant they essentially started all over again.
Due to the sheer space usage for the uncompressed audio and video, extras are limited to a storyboard collection and five theatrical trailers.
