"Friday the 13th" Has Record Weekend

It appears you can’t keep a good horror icon down.  Jason Voorheis returned to the silver screen this weekend, shattering records for a horror-film debut with a box-office take of $42.4 million.

The success of the reboot of the “Friday the Thirteenth” franchise bodes well for other horror franchises that will see big-screen reboots in the coming months.  It also means that Hollywood may now look to reboot other horror franchises to cash in on the success.

Coming in second was the romantic comedy, “He’s Just Not that Into You” with a box-office gross of $19.6 million.

Rounding out the top five were “Taken” with $19.3 million, “Confession of a Shopaholic” with $ $15.4 million and “Coraline” with $15.4 million.

Final figures will be out later this week.
