It would appear that there wasn’t as much interest in an Underworld prequel as Sony Pictures had hoped. While the new film did capture 2nd place in this weekend’s box office, it only grossed $20.8 million. Could this indicate a loss of interest in the vampire/werewolf theme, and if so, could this spell disaster for the upcoming anticipated “The Wolfman” remake starring Benicio Del Toro?
Also making a poor showing for its grand debut was Brendan Frazer’s “Inkheart.” This film was expected to make it into the Top 5 but only eeked-out a 7th place showing for its opener. Of course, that could be blamed on the poor pre-opening advanced promotion and press coverage the film received.
