The judge in the dispute over who has the rights to distribute the upcoming “Watchman” movie has issued a ruling–and it’s one that could possibly delay the movie’s release.
The judge in the case has ruled that 20th Century Fox has a copyright stake in the upcoming graphic-novel adaptation motion picture, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film is being produced and distributed by Warner Brothers.
“Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the ‘Watchmen’ motion picture,” judge Gary Feess said in the ruling.
The rule could mean that Warner will have to delay releasing one of the most anticipated films of next year.  The studios were headed to a trial date on January 20th. Now it appears that Warner Brothers may have to pay Fox some kind of settlement in order to release the movie on its scheduled date.
