The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) says it will be sending out strike authorization ballots to its 120,000 members beginning January 2, 2009. Members will have until midnight January 23 to get their vote counted.
If 75 percent of the membership vote YES for a strike it could go into effect as early as January 24.
Guild President Alan Rosenberg said in a press statement on Wednesday that the future of professional actors is at stake and could hinge on the vote.

What they got a time machine?

do you mean 2009?
Andrew McDonald says
So how does this affect the TV seasons? Will most shows be in the can by then or will we suffer another shortened season?
Sam Sloan says
Yeah..2009. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me. 🙂 Thanks for the catch.

I wonder if the economic crisis will delay the strike. People might not be sympathetic toward the actors given how so many families are hurting. I’m guessing no strike, just more negotiations. Then again, I don’t have a working crystal ball.
As far as what it means if they do strike . . . for most show it means the acting will be better than what we have right now. It will then get worse as soon as they get back to work after the strike. Don’t know that for sure . . . just going by what happened with the writing.
Yes, I’m kidding.

In my town, there has been no future for professional actors since the studios cut back productions, due to the failed negotiations. The largest sound stage in North America has been empty since it opened in the spring of this year.
