The Thing was one of the scariest movies I ever saw, and Galaxy Quest was a huge, funny, and well done tribute to the fans and genre, and The Matrix scores points for innovation in cinematography and some points for production, but Blade Runner is in a class of its own.
Bignesssays
Definitely The Thing – who can forget the guy’s head sprouting crab/spider legs and crawling across the floor and the other dude saying, “You’ve got to be f****ing kidding me!” Nothing like flame throwers in the Antarctic – now that is a well-stocked research station!!!
Special effects were, and still are, outstanding. Then ending was a little lame (perfect sequel fodder, but it never happened), but still, you gotta love it!
All that said, Khan, Terminator 1 & 2, and Aliens were also great!
This is tough choice between a couple of them (Aliens, Star Trek 2, Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, and my all time favorite of Tron), but I had to go with Aliens. That is one awesome movie.
As much as I love 2001 and Wrath of Khan — it’s Blade Runner all the way!

I got tired of watching Empire over the last 20 years but I have to admit it’s the only movie I’ve seen more than 100 times, so I gave it my vote.
Blade Runner was my second bet.
I think the word is final on this because regardless of who runs the poll, how many times it has been run or when it is done in history…Blade Runner and Star Wars are always rated number 1 & 2 or tied for first.
Let’s all just finally agree: Blade Runner is the greatest sci-fi movie of all time with Star Wars right there knocking on its door.

I don’t think Star War has held up anywhere near as well as Blade Runner, so perhaps that’s a dogie door it’s knocking on. But hey, that’s just me.
Timesays
Maybe I just missed it. But how can you have a Scifi greatest hits without DUNE by Frank Herbert
Just in case who ever put this list together forget what actors are in this movie here’s a reminder:
I went with “Bladerunner” also….the cinematography was one of the reasons I like the film so much. My second would be “Alien”….saw it on the big screen and it scared the crap outta me.
Just a FYI…I’ve heard rumor that there is a new “The Thing” and it is going to be a prequel about the first group of people, that were chasing the dog from the helicopter at the other arctic base.
