While David Tennant may be leaving the role as the universe’s most famous Time Lord at the end of next year’s specials, the British actor told BBC Breakfast last week that he hasn’t entirely close the door on ever picking up a Sonic Screwdriver again.
“Who knows what might happen in the future?” Tennant said.  “The door isn’t necessarily closed forever.”
Tennant called the role, “one of those parts that sticks with you” and that he would be open to return to the character like former Doctor Peter Davison did last year. Davison appeared in the role of the fifth Doctor for last year’s Children in Need segment. The short segment, written by new series-runner Stephen Moffatt, will appear on the upcoming series four DVD set.
Asked about who he thinks the next Doctor will be, Tennant was evasive.
“It’s not down to me,” he said. “I’ve got nothing to do with it.”
In Britian, the current favorite to play the next role is actor James Nesbitt. Nesbitt appeared in the BBC series “Jeckyll,” which was written by Moffatt.

Michael Natale says
Nesbitt was brilliant in Jekyll. He would be a GREAT choice.
