Viewers in the Asian-Pacific market can look forward to seeing more British television programming on their screens. BBC Worldwide is looking to expand their presense in the region according to Variety.
“We are right at the beginning of this journey, and have a heck of a lot of catching up to do,” BBC Worldwide Channels Darren Childs told Variety in Hong Kong. “Many of our competitors have ten years advance on us.”
BBC Worldwide already has a presense in cable systems in Hong Kong and Singapore and is looking to expand into South Korea within the next several months.
Part of the move could involve the expansion of the BBC’s popular I-Player service to allow users to watch streaming copies of popular BBC series. The service is popular in the United Kingdom and the BBC is looking to expand it the service to a worldwide market. However, officials at the BBC said a worldwide launch won’t come anytime soon.
