One week from today, Americans will head to the polls to choose a new leader for the United States.
And no matter who wins the race, reports from Washington indicate that the new president will appoint a new head of the Federal Communications Commission when he takes office in January. The appointment would replace current FCC chief Kevin Martin according to Variety.
Variety reports that McCain is not a fan of Martin becuase of ties to former FCC head Michael Powell and that Obama already has Julius Genachowski in mind to assume the role as head of the FCC should he be elected. Genachowski has a long history in the entertainment industry, having worked as a senior excecutive to Barry Diller and an aide to former FCC chief Reed Hunt If McCain were elected, there is speculation that he would appoint Bill Bradley, a lobbyist for Disney or Mark Busey to the top spot at the FCC.
In the past, both McCain and Obama have taken strong stands on the issue of digital piracy and Hollywood insiders see “no fundamental difference” between the two on the debate.
