After promising that his upcoming “Green Hornet” would be a serious take on the popular character, actor Seth Rogan says that may not necessarily be the case.
Rogan says that he and writing partner Evan Goldberg have been working on the script and that the final product may be a bit less serious than he originally thought.
“We feel no obligation to live up to anything I’ve said to any of you people in the past,” Rogen told CHUD while promoting his upcoming “Zach and Miro.” “When we’re writing I can’t go, ‘F—, I told CHUD we weren’t going to do that! Let’s do it anyway!’
“We have one rule when writing, and that’s don’t get attached to anything. One day we want to make a serious film and then Stephen Chow comes in with a good idea and we’re like, ‘Well it’s funny.’, ” he continued. “Should we not do it because we originally wanted to do a serious film? We come from, nah fuck it, we’ll just take the idea that seems good. So it’s definitely less serious than a serious film, that’s for sure. We want the action… I say now that we want the action to play serious but Stephen could come in tomorrow and say ‘You know what? I want to throw you 400 feet in the air!’ and I’d go, ‘OK, that sounds cool.’ ”
So, it looks like we’ll have to wait and see just how the writers approach the material.

If I had any respect for Seth Rogan before, it has been lost.

Really? At least he’s being honest. It’s the Green Hornet; there isn’t nearly as much source material to work with as say, a Batman or a Spiderman. Any work in progress is going to change as it’s being written, ask any writer if their finished result is exactly what they thought it would be when they started. He’s basically saying he had an idea, and as he was working on it a better idea came along, in his eyes. He, go with the one you like the best, I say.
(Would it have killed George Lucas to be as honest? If he had just come out and said, “Hey, remember all that stuff I said, or implied in episodes 4 through 6? Well I got a WAY cooler idea. Trust me, you are gonna LOVE Midiclorians.” then I would have more respect for him today. Sort of.)

“his upcoming “Zach and Miro.— has a typo. It should be “Zach and Miri”.
Why? says
I cant understand his interest for the character. He has approached the entire project with such contempt and disrespect that he must hate everything about it.
It baffles me as to why he would want to be involved.
Let someone who is at least interested work on the project.
This is going to be a train wreck.

In fairness, I’m not cray about the comedy angle either but look at the Batman series with Adam West. I love the campiness of this series and the more serious movie versions. I believe this is enough room for both.
However, I would have chosen someone other than Seth Rogan for the lead.

I don’t think that either Seth Rogen or the Green Hornet are important enough for this to be a sign of the impending apocalypse, but I’m pretty sure that at least Rogen is to blame for global warming.
Flee! Surely the studios could find something better to spend the money on? A Pauly Shore sequel? The big screen revival of Rainbow Brite? Battleground Earth 2?

Up front: I like Seth Rogen. I think he’s funny. And when I heard he was writing this movie, I had no problem with it. I figured he’d be able to use discretion. And I read this and I still have no problem with it. All he’s saying is that there will be humor in it. He doesn’t say the movie will be a comedy. Most dramas have some comedy in them, just as most comedies have serious moments.
To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t have chosen Rogen to play GH either. I think Chow will be excellent. But it is what it is.
