Slater’s New Spy Show Deserves a Chance

October 17, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: TV News

Christian Slater’s new spy series “My Own Worst Enemy” aired its premiere episode this past Monday on NBC with only about 8 million viewers tuning in. Don’t let the slow start fool you. If NBC gives this show a chance “My Own Worst Enemy” could end up being a major hit series for the Peacock network.

While no James Bond, Slater’s Edward Albright is a breath of fresh air for network television that has grown so bland and politically correct over the last decade or so. After all, when is the last time you saw a super spy on the small screen in a weekly series make love to a beautiful counter-espionage agent then shoot her between the eyes when she tries to kill him—and then casually sit back, take a long, big drag on a Camel and really look like he enjoyed his work and his smoke?

“My Own Worst Enemy” stars Christian Slater as Edward Albright/Henry Spivey, Alfre Woodward, Mike O’Malley and Mädchen Amick. The series co-stars Saffron Burrows, Bella Thorne and Taylor Lautner.

The show airs new episodes every Monday on NBC at 10/9C, with an encore performance of the series premiere this Saturday, October 18 at 9/8C.

I rarely watch 1st season shows now as all the ones I like are likely to get canceled.

If this gets to 12 episodes I might download them, but after the high quality journeyman got dropped last year I’m not holding my breathe.

I saw MOWE for the first time last night, & I liked it. This show & Crusoe are very promising.

I also enjoyed the first show and don’t understand why critics are so bent on criticizing it. I thought it flowed nicely and refreshingly complex without being complicated. A friend of mine mentioned all the “spy” cliches. Guess I didn’t get them, not being a spy movie lover. I hope the series sticks around.
