Pitt Ready for More Homer

October 17, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: From Page To Screen

First Brad Pitt tried Homer, the famous Greek poet, on for size in the film “Troy,” based on the the poet’s famous “The Iliad.” Now the actor is ready to tackle another masterpiece from the ancient writer. He will play Odysseus (a.k.a. Ulysses) in the Warner Bros. production of “The Odyssey,” according to Variety.

There will, however, be one catch to this next film, it won’t be a period piece like “Troy.” Instead scribe George Miller will be adapting the famous tale into a SF film set in the future and in outer space. Miller (”Justice League”) will also direct.

The original poem from Homer also dealt with the Trojan War and Odysseus’ Trojan Horse creation. Then it followed the great military leader’s trek back home after he refused the offer of the gods to be made immortal.

Hmm. I think Homer’s Odyssey has already been translated into a Sci-Fi environment. It’s the fan series called “Star Trek: Odyssey.” (www.stodyssey.com)

He’s just trying to upstage Clooney’s Ulysses in “Oh Brother Where Art Thou.’ J/K this is potentially very cool. “Meanwhile back on Ithica 5. . .”

I think “Ulysses 31″ beats “Star Trek: Odyssey” to the Sci-fi adaptation of Odyssey buy more than a couple decades.
