Yogi Bear will search for picnic baskets on the big-screen

October 2, 2008 by Michael Hickerson   || Category: Film News

Proving once more that Hollywood has completely run out of original ideas, Hanna-Barbara’s Yoga Bear has been given the green-light for a big-screen feature film.

Variety reports the movie will have a similiar visual style to last year’s “Alvin and the Chipmunks” combining live-action with CGI versions of Yogi Bear and his sidekick buddy, Boo-Boo.

Developed by Warner Brothers, Jellystone Park and the rest of Yogi’s universe will be brought to life by director Ash Brannon. Brannon also directed “Surf’s Up” and will co-write the screenplay.

Introduced in 1958 on “The Huckleberry Hound Show,” Yogi Bear has been a cartoon icon.  He featured in his own cartoon series, stealing picnic baskets along with sidekick Boo-Boo and causing heartache for Ranger Smith.

No word yet on when “Yogi” will head to a theater near you.

Netflix, Inc.

I used to watch Yogi Bear when I was a kid. But then, I’m 42. Rather than think up something more interesting for the kids of today than a talking bear who steals pic-uh-nic baskets they *had* to go drag that out of the trash bin?

Ugh. I weep for the future.
