Brain Piercing — Pre-Johnny Mnemonic Technology?
Submitted by: Michael R. Mennenga (FarPoint Media President, COO)
For those of you who still think that there is no way people will get comfortable enough to implant computer or other computer interface devices into their bodies, I submit this.
“The times when piercing was considered to be something extraordinary and even scary are gone. We are used to meet people with their ears, noses, eyebrows and even eyelids pierced. But what if I tell you that one can have his brain pierced? An extreme body piercing idea! And this is for real! They drill small holes in your skull, then pass a metal (gold or silver) ring through them. The trick is that the ring presses the brain tissue and invokes euphoria. The whole procedure is carried under a local anesthesia [and because the brain itself doesn't have any pain receptors], after the ring is passed, it doesn’t cause any pain.”
You have to wonder though, if those things move around or your head gets bumped, couldn’t the points protruding into the brain cause tissue damage?
It is only a matter of time before we start seeing iPods or cell phones attached to wet-wired plugs in people’s heads.
Maybe we can offer Slice of SciFi as a direct brain-load.
