“Fringe,” the J.J. Abrams highly touted and much anticipated new Fox television series debuted this week (on Tuesday) and won its timeslot with the highest viewership between the networks and cable channels, however, the support ended up being less enthusiastic than was hoped for. The network received about a 9 share with mediocre showing in the all-important 18-34 male demographic.
The CW Network’s return of a revamped and updated “90210” garnered second place on Tuesday night, while ABC Family, which continues to impress with such entries as “Kyle XY” and “Greek” should be very pleased with its numbers for the midseason finale of its latest hit show, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” In fact, if you only look at the 12 to 18 demographic, then “Teenager” beat “90210” badly, revealing the younger set prefers their own version of the one-time young hit series.
Fox is hoping “Fringe” will get better numbers next week when their greatest hit of all-time, “House,” returns as the lead-in for Abrams’ new SF show.
I saw it and I liked it. Will watch again.
Don’t think I won’t be “flying BT Airlines” and getting a ticket each week.
When Fox cancels the show and I’m thinkin’ they will because this show seems too damned smart, I want to have what at least made broadcast.
I learned my lesson with Firefly.
I taped…yes, *taped* the episodes they aired, including the pilot, and those VHS tapes were golden until they finally decided to release the series on DVD.
Rambling thoughts on Fringe…
It is definitely an X-Files clone, but it is still worth a look. …In addition to the X-files stuff, JJ Abrams has added some Lost elements to the show: music, a mysterious corporation, and clues in the set background to name a few…Maybe he is trying to hook the Lost Fans…
One scene from the last episode reminded me of the death scene of Sol from Solyent Green.
