New Heavy Metal Film?

New Heavy Metal Film?

September 4, 2008 By Sam Sloan 3 Comments

Heavy Metal publisher Kevin Eastman says that Zack Snyder, Guillermo del Toro and Gore Verbinski will join executive producer David Fincher to direct segments of the upcoming Heavy Metal animated film remake, according to /Film (Slash Film) and confirming our discussion about the possiblity on one of our recent shows.

The website says that the movie will feature eight or nine different segments, with an R-rating as its goal. Animators Tim Miller and Eastman are expected to direct segments as well.

The original 1981 film, loosely based on the comic book of the same name, was directed by Gerald Potterton (“The Smoggies”) and most prominently starred the voices of Second City alums John Candy, Eugene Levy and Joe Flaherty. That film was also noted for its use of nudity, sex and violence. It was an anthology centered around a green orb (Loc-Nar),the sum of all evil, which was found on a planet by an astronaut and brought home to his daughter as a gift. It kills him and uses the girl for its own nefarious purposes, which is to reveal various tales of darkness from the past, present and future.

It will be wonderful if this happens. The first movie wasn’t all that it ought to have been. It was also a legal nightmare as it took years to get it on VHS and then, DVD. The second film was a mess. Let’s hope they get it right this time.

The nightmares had to do more with the music rights then anything else. I don’t know, I am so sick of remakes myself. can’t they dip into books more? so many good ones to make movies off, sci fi and otherwise.

They replace the Vette with a Prius, then we will really know the end is near.
