Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder,” co-starring Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr., remains the top box office grossing film in the United States for the third weekend in a row. The satirical comedy about actors shooting a war film in a real jungle who end up fighting in a real war has garnered over $83 million (USD) so far while holding its number one position.
Dropping like a lead weight from the number two slot was the Anna Faris comedy “The House Bunny.” It slipped to number four. Taking over second position will be the Vin Diesel apocalyptic SF thriller “Babylon A.D.” with “The Dark Knight” holding on to third with a 7-week total now at over $502 million (USD). Many are rethinking the idea that “Knight” won’t overtake current all-time winner “Titanic,” which made $600 million (USA) domestic.
At number five is a film that many critics, including myself, believe should actually be on top this weekend, the Don Cheadle film “Traitor”, a brilliant piece of work.
Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi on Tuesday for the Top 10 Box Office winners.
