Van Damme Stars in Self-styled Mocumentary
Canadian producer Peace Arch Entertainment has picked up North American rights to the Jean-Claude Van Damme-starring parody “JCVD” ahead of its North American bow at the Toronto International Film Festival, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In the Mabrouk El Mechri-directed mockumentary from Gaumont, Van Damme plays himself in the midst of a hostage situation in his native Belgium.
Toronto-based Peace Arch intends a fall release for the movie, which was acquired as part of a joint venture recently struck between the Canadian company and Britain’s ContentFilm.
Cast will also include François Damiens, Zinedine Soualem and Karim Belkhadra.
“JCVD” screens in the Toronto festival on September 4.
