While it may not be the entire (available) 26-season run of the original “Doctor Who,” i-Tunes users can now download a selection of classic “Doctor Who” serials.
Priced at $1.99 per episode, the selection covers most of the first six Doctors and offers an interesting selection of titles currently on DVD and some that have yet to reach DVD. Included in the not yet on DVD set are the Tom Baker classic, “The Deadly Assassin,” “The Sunmakers,” Patrick Troughton in “The Krotons” and Jon Pertwee’s six part epic, “The Mutants.” Stories currently on DVD on i-Tunes include “Carnival of Monsters,” “Arc in Space” and “Earthshock.”Â
One thing to note before you go wild buying episodes. Classic “Doctor Who” stories were made up of serials running from two to fourteen episodes in length. The i-Tunes model means you will have to buy each individual episode in order to have a complete story. So, in the case of “Deadly Assassin,” you will pay $1.99 per episode to have the complete story. But given that this story has never been commercially released in its unedited format in the United States, many “Doctor Who” fans may think it worth the investment (at least until the inevitable DVD release).
