Ben Stiller’s satiric look at war films will overtake “The Dark Knight” from its top spot at the box office this weekend. The Batman movie held on to number one for a little over a month and has become the #2 highest B.O. film in the industry’s history, surpassing “Star Wars,” but still trailing well behind “Titanic.”
“Tropic Thunder,” which stars Stiller with Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr., garnered a lot of controversy because of its frequent use of the “R” word (retard). “R” word, “N” word, “F” word — any chance we will ever get over ourselves and just learn when a satire is a satire?
“The Dark Knight” dropped to the number two slot, not allowing the new George Lucas animation sci-fi adventure flick the opportunity to be in the top two. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will have to settle for number three, with Kiefer Sutherland’s surprise steady riser, “Mirrors” at number 4. Rounding out the top 5 will likely be the Seth Rogen stoner dramedy “Pineapple Express.”
We will have the Final Top Ten Weekend grossers for you on Tuesday.
