Slice of SciFi Website Scheduled Downtime

August 13, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: News

Our Slice of SciFi Website will be down for a major facelift beginning Wednesday evening (August 13) until Friday evening (August 15).

Our crack IT team headed by Summer and Nina are giving Slice of SciFi an all-new look and feel that we hope all of you, our fans, will enjoy and find even more helpful as you navigate through the myriad of stories, contests and other news and entertainment we enjoy bringing to you every single day.

We are also in the midst of moving our DracoVista Studios to a new and larger location and as a result of that there will be no new Voicemail Show this Friday, but there will be a regularly scheduled Slice of SciFi show on Saturday, August 16 with our special guest Michael Brooks.

Actually I blame it on the gnomes.

So far, I don’t like the new interface. I liked having (all) the latest news available directly after loading http://sliceofscifi.com
Even views like http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2008/08/ or http://www.sliceofscifi.com/category/news/ only give you the titles.

The problem with having all the news load all at once was slowing down the site, and on busy days, all of the day’s news might not all be on the front page.

The site is loading much much faster, now, and that addresses one of the major complaints we’ve had about SliceofSciFi.com over the past year.

It will take some time to go back and fill in excerpts for all three years of articles. Sam thing for the new thumbnail images.

The goal was to get more news visible in a format that wasn’t cluttered, and articles are still available in the news feed.

    Thanks for the explanation Summer.
