From Messiah to Antichrist

August 13, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

Willem Dafoe has starred in his share of films as unusual characters. He has played the pervert in “Auto Focus” with Greg Kinnear, as he Green Goblin in “Spider Man” and his most controversial role ever, as Jesus in “The Last Temptation of Christ,” the brilliant film from renowned director Martin Scorcese. Now Dafoe slips into horror with Charlotte Gainsbourg in “Antichrist,” which will be directed by Lars von Trier from a script co-written by Anders Thomas Hensen. You see, it will be extra scary because the director and writer both have three names.

For this psychological horror-thriller Dafoe and Gainsbourg are playing a couple who retreat to an isolated cabin in the woods following the death of their child, only to be confronted by some pretty frightening stuff. The movie begins filming later this month and will be shot on location in Germany.

Dafoe continues with the horror theme for two other new films titled “Cirgue de Freak,” and “Daybreakers,” both revolve around vampires; and he joins Jeff Goldblum and the great Derek Jacobi in the war drama “Adam Resurrected.” These films are due out later this year or in early 2009.
