Slice of SciFi #172: Chuck Beaver (Producer, EA Games’ “Dead Space”)

August 2, 2008 By Summer Brooks 3 Comments

In the News:

  • George Lucas is a busy man again now that the latest Indy film is a rousing success and the Clone Wars is coming on August 15 on the large screen and to the small screen on the Cartoon Network and TNT this fall. Now George is ready to tackle Indy 5 with both Ford and Spielberg up for it as well.
  • Relativity Media has obtained the rights to David Anthony Durham’s epic 2007 fantasy novel “Acacia: The War With the Mein.”
  • “Spider Man 3” actress Bryce Dallas Howard was at last weekends big San Diego Comic Con and spoke a great deal about her upcoming film with Christian Bale, “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.”

  • Special Segment: Mary King from The Signal reviews “Stargate: Continuum”

    Movie Talk:

  • We move into the shower with filmmaking icon Wes Craven and take a look at his next horror film “25/8” starring Max Thierot.
  • Director Wong Kar Wai will be bringing the long-planned re-working of his legendary martial arts film “Ashes of Time” back to the silver screen with the new title “Ashes of Time Redux.”

  • Slice of Trivia: Kurt in St. George has three clips dedicated to “Battlestar Galactica.” Can you guess which films they are and what they have in common with BSG?

    TV Talk:

  • Nick at Nite has given the thumbs-up for 20-episodes of a new animated series from Michael Eisner, former CEO of the Walt Disney Co.
  • According to a statement made by executive producer David Eick, several of the final 10 episodes of “Battlestar Galactica” will run long, so they have been expanded.

  • Interview: Chuck Beaver, senior producer for EA Games’ “Dead Space” talks with Mike, Summer, Brian and Crazy Joe about this great SF-horror video game and the new animated series and related comic book series. Taking place in the far future, the human race is almost extinct and must search deep space with planet-crackers for all their needs and resources. Eventually, they come up to a planet that fights back. Can you say “strategic dismemberment?” The M-rated game, comic books and animated series will build on one another. Comic issue 4 of a 6 parter is on book shelves now.

    Future Talk:

  • Producer Brad Fuller will be doing a remake of the classic Roman Polanski film “Rosemary’s Baby,” which originally starred Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes in this 1968 film about a New York yuppie couple giving birth to Satan’s offspring, the future Antichrist.
  • Veteran actor Dennis Quaid will be starring in a new movie the he describes as a “horror film with heart.” “The Horsemen” centers on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

  • Listener comments: If you have any suggestions or comments, please let us know. Keep your comments brief, or funny, and maybe you’ll hear your message on the voicemail show! See you next week with fresh new content.

Warning. If you are a Stargate fan and have not seen Continuum yet then do NOT listen to the review of it. Mary King’s review is not so much a review as a scene for scene description giving away many major plot points.

Awesome interview guys. That genre of game/movie doesn’t generally do it for me, but he made it sound so damn exciting!

I’ll be checking it out fer sure.
