Warner Bros. is getting ready to launch “Marvin the Martian,” the character created by renowned cartoonist Chuck Jones. Marvin turned 60 this year and first appeared in theaters as a Looney Tunes short. These short toons were featured as fillers in the days when two movies were seen in theaters. They filled the gap between the two main features. By the late 1960′s and early 70′s the idea of using shorts faded as theaters went to the one film showing format.
“Marvin the Martian” will return as a combination CGI/live-action film. No word yet if the feisty green alien will come up against Bugs Bunny as he did in days of old. The Martian was always thwarted by the crafty wabbit from blowing up the Earth.
Marvin was originally voiced by the iconic Mel Blanc, the famous voice behind nearly all of the Looney Tunes characters. He is now being voiced by Joe Alaskey, another great voice actor responsible for many of the familiar toon characters on television and movies today.
