The wait for the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica won’t be as long as we initially feared. The SCI FI Channel announced earlier this week that the final episodes of season four would air, starting in January. A specific premiere date has been set.
Also, it was announced that SCI FI execs will make a decision on whether or not to take the prequel Caprica to series before the two-hour movie airs on the network. Initial reports had the movie serving as a “backdoor” pilot for more stories set in the Galactica universe. We will have more about Caprica on our Slice of SciFi Show this weekend.
As we’ve previously reported, SCI FI is eager to keep Galactica around. The network has seen growth in the ratings for the show this year as well as attracting the demographics the network wants.
In related news, Galactica director and producer Michael Rymer has been tapped to helm the upcoming big-screen adapation of Witchblade according to Variety.
Finally, TVShowsonDVD.com is reporting that the first half of the fourth season will hit DVD on December 30. As with season two, the two halves of season four will be released as seperate box-sets.

January is not news. We knew January ages ago.
Sam says
No, many were predicting January but now SCI FI has made it absolutely official…er, that is unless they change their minds. 😉

So this explains why there is no fifth season, right? Sci-Fi channel makes no sense.

@Andrew:
Maybe they’re too busy making “Mansquito 2”
Sam says
They’re not up to keeping it around as a weekly series. However, they are excited about the possibility of doing more specials and movies like they did with Razor.
Paul says
BSG, probably one of the best SciFi’s to hit the small screen in years and they are not up to it???? Do these guys have something against good ratings and making money??
Sam says
Yes. They hate money and loathe good ratings.
