According to the L.A. Times, in a telephone interview Grace Park, Cylon 8, Boomer, Sharon, Athena etc., from the series stated that she has heard that the next BSG film has been given a go.
“I just heard about the first Battlestar movie being greenlit,” said Park. “A TV movie, but still! But this — it’s like, yeah, it’s over but we’re ready to move on but nobody’s manager or agent has been called. It’s supposed to start in August.”
The cast and crew of the Peabody Award winning series celebrated its official wrap party on Saturday in Vancouver, the location of the studio and locations shots for the series. The show is ending its four-year run and the final episodes of the weekly program are set to air on the SCI FI Channel sometime in 2009.
“There’s one episode where everything is explained and I had to read it three times,” Park told the Times. “I had to sit down with [executive producer] Ron Moore and he had to break it down.” [Note: The L.A. Times plans on running the entire telephone interview with Grace Park on their official website on July 20.]
Now that the series has actually finished shooting its final episode the SCI FI Channel is indicating that it isn’t quite ready to close out on their one true hit and they’d “love to see the continuation of ‘Battlestar’ with a special event akin to Razor but the idea is still in the discussion stage.”
Ronald D. Moore, series executive producer told The Times’ in another interview during a panel discussion that he’d love to see this ongoing relationship between BSG and the SCI FI Channel happen as well.
So kids, thank goodness it ain’t over until the fat lady sitting at the piano bar sings a Klingon opera.

Guys, I hate to say this, but BSG movies are not a great idea. Have any of you actually SEEN a SCIFI channel movie? Do you remember the Babylon 5 movies? These are the people who brought us "Mansquito" remember? They don't know how to make movies. Please, I beg of you sciffi, bring the series to a rousing conclusion and then keep your cotton pickin' hands off that universe.
Have you seen Razor?
That was awesome!
Battlestar Galactica is the one thing that Sci-Fi channel has dome right. Razor was awesome, and more BSG movies are sure to be a hit. I don't know why Sci Fi Channel doesn't jump on this.
Will the movies actually be produced by skiffy or another production company to be shown on skiffy - subtle difference?
Will the first one be Battlestar:1980?
@Lisa: "These are the people who brought us “Mansquito†remember?"
I... actually kinda liked Mansquito. ::hangs head in shame:: It wasn't a good movie by any stretch, but it was funny. (No, it wasn't supposed to be, but it was.) I also liked Mammoth, 'cause they really embraced the campiness on that one.
But, more to the point, I have faith that BSG movies will be worthwhile. I thought the original miniseries and Razor were both quite good. I like Stargate: The Ark of Truth and am really looking forward to Continuum as well.
Yes, the SciFi Saturday monster movies are mostly lame with awful CGI, but they usually treat their franchises well.
