Puzo’s Son Sues Paramount
Anthony Puzo has sued Paramount Pictures for breach of contract alleging that the studio has yet to turn revenue from a video game based on his famous father’s (Mario Puzo) “Godfather” saga over to the Puzo family.
The suit was filed by Puzo’s lawyers in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday (June 18) claiming a minimum of $1 million in damages.
As far as we know at this time, Electronic Arts (EA), the gaming company licensed by Paramount to produce the game, is not named in the suit.
Anthony Puzo has made the claim that the Paramount deal, made with his father back in 1992, agrees to give Puzo (and his surviving estate) a significant share of the revenue of any audio-visual products sold or rented with any elements from the “Godfather” movies in them. The games in question used characters from the Academy Award winning feature film.
“In material breach of the audio-visual products agreement, Paramount has failed and refused to pay the Puzo Estate the sums due it in respect of the Godfather game,” said the court filing.
