While the “Incredible Hulk” was all the rage in the United States this weekend, ranking nubmer one, overseas it was all M. Night Shyamalan and his Mark Wahlberg starring film “The Happening.”
However, if you take into account the number of showings between the two giant films, then Edward Norton’s Hulk did better.
“The Happening” raked in $32.1 million with 5,714 showings in 88 separate markets, while the “Incredible Hulk” pulled in $31 million with only 3,165 showings in 38 different markets. So, while the dollar amount was greater for Shyamalan’s flick, director Louis Leterrier’s big mean greenie actually performed better.
In other international news, Paramount Pictures successfully crossed over that $1 billion (USD) ceiling in the overseas market a full six weeks earlier than this same time last year thanks in large part to the overwhelming audience response to two of its blockbuster films, “Iron Man” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.”
