Big Box Office Surprise

June 8, 2008 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Film News

Critics were thrown a curve-ball this weekend as Jack Black and accomplices have taken the lead far, far away from what all the prognosticators thought would be a second big weekend for the ladies from “Sex and the City.” In fact, “Sex” didn’t even manage to remain in the Top 3.

If projections hold out until the close of box office on Sunday the winner will be Kung Fu Panda with an estimated $60 million, showing that the PG crowd have plenty of box office clout.

Following second looks to be Adam Sandler’s new entry “You Don’t Mess With the Zohan” at $40 million and rallying in the last turn of the race is “Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” returning in the top three spot adding another nearly $23 million to its already astronomical totals since debuting back in May.

Round out the top five at this juncture looks to be “Sex and the City” and the Liv Tyler chiller “The Strangers.”

Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi for the full Final Top Ten box office grossing films for the weekend. Those figures will be brought to you by Tuesday of this week.

Can’t say I’m surprised. The first theater we went to Friday afternoon with the kids was SOLD OUT for the showing. The second theater we went to has starts every 30 minutes and the theater was still pretty crowded.

And, it was a fun flick as well.
